What to Expect

In this course, you will work through four modules of material. Each module is broken down into smaller units. These units will cover topics related to cultural communication, research and sources, using sources, and references and citations.  

Throughout the course, you will find readings, videos, lightning rounds, and practice quizzes to help deepen your understanding of the content. Engaging with these activities reinforces new learning. It also complements the knowledge you bring to this area of study.

Assessments

The assessments provide an opportunity to demonstrate your mastery of the competencies in this course. The method of assessment includes three final projects. You may attempt the assessments two times before additional support is necessary. If you require further attempts, please contact your Course Instructor or Student Experience Specialist.

Cultural Communication 
  • Identify components of a professional email. 
  • Identify the appropriate audience for a professional email. 
  • Identify effective written communication approaches for a given professional context. 
  • Describe the four types of written communication. 
  • Identify cultural considerations of cross-cultural communication. 
  • Identify the connection between language and culture. 
  • Incorporate appropriate use of pronouns to convey voice. 
  • Apply appropriate use of language to cross-cultural communication. 
Research and Sources 
  • Develop research topics and questions. 
  • Categorize different types of sources. 
  • Identify valid and reliable sources of information. 
  • Evaluate relevancy, credibility, and bias in source material. 
Using Sources 
  • Select appropriate evidence related to a given topic or position from a group of potential sources. 
  • Demonstrate ways to synthesize information. 
  • Describe the process of synthesizing a central message from multiple sources. 
References and Citations 
  • Explain the components of a reference list.
