Course Description and Competencies

What to Expect

In this course, you will work through two modules of material. Each module includes several smaller units that give you an overview of dementia-centered care practices in community and home settings.

Throughout the course, you'll use readings, videos, scenarios, and ungraded practice tests to deepen your understanding of the content. These activities will reinforce what you're learning and connect it to what you already know about this topic.

Course Competencies

This course covers the following competencies:

  • The student applies person-centered dementia care principles in community-based settings.
  • The student coordinates community-based support for individuals with dementia and their care partners.

Assessment

You must achieve a ranking of Competent on each assessment to pass the course. You may attempt the assessment two times before additional support is necessary. If you require further attempts, please contact your Student Experience Team.

Community Memory Care
  • Identify early cognitive, behavioral, and safety indicators of dementia in community-based scenarios.
  • Apply environmental and communication principles to support safety and dignity in community-based dementia care.
  • Assess caregiver readiness for safe and independent dementia care in community settings.
Resources and Coordination
  • Identify formal and informal community resources that support individuals with dementia and their care partners.
  • Apply care coordination principles to community-based dementia support planning.
  • Assess caregiver and patient needs during transitions in community-based dementia care.
